You walk into your home and feel like you need a change, so you stand back and look at your great room and put your imagination to work. You imagine what it will look like with a new coat of paint and or an accent wall. That wasn’t enough to ease your mind, so you decide to look at a new flooring option. Most people don’t know what to look for when choosing a good hardwood flooring option, one might wonder what to consider?

Type of Hardwood Floor

There are many different types of hardwood flooring; The two most common types are solid and engineered. Solid hardwood has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is that its lifespan is almost limitless. You can sand and refinish it almost forever. The problem with solid hardwood is that it is porous and can absorb moisture and by so doing can warp. So if you live near the beach or lake or in humid areas you might want to look at engineered hardwood. Engineered hardwood flooring also has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are its cost, and how it’s made. It is definitely lower cost compared to solid hardwood and it is also engineered not to be as susceptible to moisture. The disadvantage with engineered hardwood is that its top layer of wood is very thin and you are not as likely to refinish it like solid hardwood floors.

Species of Wood

Depending on the look you are going for there are many different styles and species of wood. When you are looking into the wood you might want to see the hardness of the wood. If you have pets or kids finding a wood that is harder is a better option and might limit your choices. Also look at the porousness of the species this might also limit your options if you live in an area where humidity is a factor. Check with your neighbors to see what kind of wood they have. It is always a good idea to know what kind of hardwood floors do well in your area.

Budget

Most people have a budget to consider when choosing new flooring. Meeting with a reputable flooring company. They can send out a person to give you measurements and options based on your personal budget. When looking for a company look at their reviews and how people have felt they were treated.
